Ashlyn Diaz

C. DANIEL DAWSON CURATORIAL + RESEARCH FELLOW 2025

Ashlyn Diaz was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida. Diaz is a visual artist who works in mixed media, combining archival and digital media, found materials, printmaking, and sculpture. Her practice promotes sustainability to uplift themes of survival and preservation in the African Diaspora as an act of reclamation and care.

Diaz earned her BFA in Drawing from the University of Florida in 2016 and was the University of Florida nominee for the 2016 Windgate Fellowship. She was awarded a summer residency at the Chautauqua School of Art in 2020. Diaz completed her MFA in Studio Art at Hunter College in 2023 and is the 2023 Hunter College recipient of The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts Robert Blackburn Printmaking Award.

Diaz worked as a Legacy Assistant for the Valerie J. Maynard Foundation in 2023 and was a Valerie J. Maynard Intern at the Baltimore Museum of Art in the Prints, Drawings and Photographs Department  in 2024. She is the 2024-25 Marilyn Nance Archive Fellow.
