This Mentorship Residency program is at the core of Indigo Arts Alliance. By bringing together artists from diverse backgrounds of the African Diaspora to engage in their creative process, we enable the creative work of visual artists across disciplines. Curatorial + Research
The C. Daniel Dawson Fellowship is a six-month fellowship based in New York City empowers Black and Brown artists, curators, and scholars by supporting innovative research and curatorial projects focused on African American art, African Diaspora studies, photography, and art history.
C. Daniel Dawson is a luminary in the art world—an esteemed photographer, filmmaker, curator, educator, and arts administrator. His work has significantly influenced the discourse surrounding African American and African Diaspora art. His archives, comprising over 10,000 slides, portfolios, and negatives, provide invaluable resources for fellows to delve into his impactful body of work.
The David C. Driskell Fellowship is a 3 month residency at Black Seed Studio for Maine Based or Maine Rooted artists of color. Created to honor the life and legacy of artist, historian, and Indigo Arts Alliance’s Elder Advisor, David C. Driskell, the purpose of this fellowship is to grant time and space to artists of color who need focus in order to deeply explore their creative production.
