Athena Lynch

April 19 - May 28, 2021

Athena Lynch, based in Portland, ME is a trans-disciplinary socially engaged artist whose work ranges from installation to activism, casting, metals, fiber, food, text, sound and dance. She grew up heavily captivated by Egyptian art and history. She went to Arts High in Newark, NJ where she majored in visual art. There she experimented in sculpture, fashion, painting, photography and more. Her work touches on themes of history, culture, spirituality, politics, life, family, and more to uncover the complexities and nuances of the contemporary African diasporic existence. She uses her work to speak to non people of color in an effort to relay the message that black is not a monolithic existence. Her work tells the story of remembrance, memory and acknowledging the past in order to move forward.
